Do You Know Your Purpose?

I want to share with you today another mark of Christ in the believer, the mark of purpose. God is a God of purpose. Everything He created has a purpose. Jesus became a man to save us, and everything He did in the thirty-three and a half years before His crucifixion had that purpose. You and I were created for a purpose.

Many people do not know their purpose before coming to Christ, but the Holy Spirit reveals our purpose once we are in Christ. Proverbs 16:4 tells us, "The Lord has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked, for the day of trouble." And Ephesians 2:10 reads, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."

The Bible tells us that God is constantly working in us to help us do good works. God prepared these good works to be accomplished by us even before our birth. A person who does not know his purpose in life is a person who is not enjoying life to the fullest. This person is like a boat on the ocean without direction. That person is not living. It just exists.

A person without a purpose is selfish because he can only focus his strength and resources on himself. However, once a person finds his purpose, life becomes more than existence; our life has meaning. Faithful followers of Christ bear on them the mark of purpose. People around them recognize that they know why they are on this Earth.

Jesus did not come to lead an army and never wasted time learning how to fight. He did not come to make money, entertain people, or become a politician. He could have done all that, but that would have detracted from his purpose. Jesus stayed on the path that took him to the cross. That was his purpose.

People of God, do you know your purpose? Your life is not an accident. If you do not know your purpose, ask the Holy Spirit to show you what that is. Stop wasting time doing things that have nothing to do with the purpose for which you were created. Look at your passions. What do you like to do? What do you hate? Look at your life. See all your experiences and evaluate your skills. All of that will help you find your purpose.
